Pastor's Bible Class by Satellite Begins in October on Hope Channel

(Please note: During the month of October Exploring the Word airs at 8:30 Eastern immediately following the NET 2004)

Lonnie Melashenko will teach "Exploring the Word," a Sabbath morning "Bible School on the Air," on the Hope Channel beginning the first weekend of October. The half-hour presentations by satellite will cover the entire spectrum of Adventist doctrines during a calendar year.

Air times are 8:00 p.m. Friday and 10:00 a.m. Sabbath in the Eastern and Pacific Time Zones. Downlink sites in all time zones may tape the program for use at their best local time.

Adventist churches throughout the North American Division -- and eventually through translators across every Division -- will have access to a weekly top-flight doctrinal Pastor's Bible Class. The programs will be hosted by Lonnie and Jeannie Melashenko and will be archived as high-quality streaming video at www.exploringtheword.com. The website will include links to additional resources on each topic.

"Exploring the Word" will be especially useful in following up interests from Sow 1 Billion, radio and television broadcasts, Signs of the Times and Message magazines, and Discover Bible Schools at local churches. They can also serve as discussion starters for home Bible studies and small groups.

Pastor Melashenko says, "A 'missing link' has plagued media ministries and churches for decades. Broadcast listeners and Bible correspondence course students are often ready for local followup, but there is no "hook" to connect them to a local congregation for ongoing study and fellowship.

"It's time for a paradigm shift, time for a brand-new way to connect Sow 1 Billion interests and tens of thousands of listeners, Bible School correspondents and sincere Internet seekers to local Adventist churches everywhere!"

This type of lesson study goes far beyond written lessons and response sheets mailed from a post office box to and from a Discover School. This program encourages people to come to local Adventist churches.

Following the lesson each week, Pastor Melashenko will make a direct appeal, calling for a decision from every student. He will encourage students to counsel with local church leaders and pastors for assistance in their spiritual growth as they prepare for baptism.

The class will be dynamic and not a static routine. "We will expand, grow, adjust, and adapt week by week, just like a Pastor's Bible Class would adapt and change," says Pastor Melashenko.

"Exploring the Word" is designed to connect Adventist ministries of all kinds with the ASI dream of Sow 1 Billion by creating a net to pull interests into local churches for quality instruction and weekly growth.
